Uber Sued in Texas by Alleged Rape Victim

A 77-year-old Texas woman who allegedly was beaten and raped by an Uber driver has sued the rideshare company in Dallas state court. The woman alleges that Uber was negligent because it permitted its driver to continue accepting Uber passengers even though there were pending criminal charges against him stemming from a prior assault of a young woman.

Uber Background Check Questioned

The woman further alleges that Uber failed to perform an adequate background check on the driver and that its policy of disqualifying drivers only for felony convictions, and not arrests, is insufficient to protect passengers. The driver, who has been charged with felony sexual assault, has allegedly has fled the country.
