Uber Automonous Cars

Self-Driving Uber Cars May Become More Common

Uber customers in Pittsburgh now can order a self-driving Uber vehicle after Uber recently unleashed a fleet of self-driving Ford Fusions on that city. But what happens when, Uber’s autonomous vehicles come to Florida and one of the self-driving cars causes a crash? At DKR, we believe that Uber’s autonomous vehicles should be treated the same as any other vehicle on the road. If Uber’s autonomous car is at fault for the crash, the injured parties should be able to look to Uber’s insurance to pay for their medical expenses and pain and suffering.  An Uber spokesman has stated that the company’s self-driving cars are insured up to $5 million per incident.

Numerous states have enacted self-driving vehicle regulations, requiring manufacturer safety certifications and a licensed driver to be in the vehicle.

Florida, however, is the only state in the country that has legalized truly autonomous vehicles – that is, in Florida, there is no requirement that a licensed driver be seated in the driver’s seat.

Our lawyers aggressively pursue claims against Uber when its drivers cause accidents and serious injury.  As driverless technology makes its way to Florida, we are prepared to handle cases involving crashes caused by Uber’s self-driving vehicles as well.
