Uber Driver Screening in Question

Uber Driver Accused of Wielding Gun

An Orlando Uber driver recently was accused of pulling a gun on a passenger, according to police reports and the passenger’s complaint filed with Uber.

The Uber driver allegedly has a lengthy criminal record, including having served two-and-a-half years in prison for Grand Theft and Burglary. The driver also allegedly was arrested in November 2014 for knowingly driving with a suspended driver’s license. The driver further reportedly has been cited for multiple motor vehicle violations in the past, including moving violations, expired tag, and no proof of insurance.

Uber Driver Screening Process In Question

Some have called into question Uber’s driver-screening process. One state prosecutor, in fact, has called Uber’s background checks “completely worthless.” We believe that regulators and lawmakers should require Uber to adopt more stringent driver-screening processes and background checks in order to ensure passenger safety. This could include requiring Level II fingerprint verification for all driver background checks.
